Uncle Jeff began with plenty of religious allegory and Ukulele Loki added
a few winter driving tips. Oh yes, leave at least one car length for each
10 mph. Ice, believe it or not, is icy. Especially along the perilous Route
93 (pray for me) commute. Common knowledge for any listener older than 25
I would think. This prompted a set of driving related music... follow the
bouncing ball as it dances along the lyrics and simultaneously teaches a
Driver's Ed course. We all were running on adrenaline today. Ukulele Loki
has been spending lots of time tracking new material for his CD. Uncle Jeff
is juggling a chainsaw, a bowling ball and a live monkey... with success
I might add. I am preparing for a massive invasion of a foreign country.
A top secret mission. Keep talking, keep moving. An icy snow threw plans to chance, but Jeff and I still made it to the Paramount Theater for a great music event by DeVotchka and Sam Beam's super solo acoustic show on Saturday night. It was worth every ounce of energy and risk to attend this sold-out show. If you made it... man you know what I am talking about. If you didn't, kick yourself in the head for not being there. By the way Jeff, I am converted. Henceforth I am an Iron & Wine fan. As you may have heard, Tom's Tavern will close for good on December 22nd. I'm sure some sort of tacky condo will soon take it's place. The first time I went to this bar was in winter of 1985. The inside was decked out with a nice wooden bar which could be used for either drinking or sleeping. The other main fixture was one of those long wooden shuffleboard tables with a dusty miniature revolving Budweiser wagon with Clydesdales hanging over it which provided the only light in the whole place. Of course there was lots of sawdust all over and everyone was chewing tobacco and drinking cheap beer. This was pre-microbrew. Memories and the ghosts of lost memories abound. RIP Tom Eldridge, and RIP Boulder for that matter. Stay tuned for next week's show. |
