Notes: An empty broke down silo guards the livestock pens and blonde hay bales at a soon-to-be gone ranchero. Now it is just worn curved brick reflecting summer heat. The domed metal top is missing and weeds grow between its toes. Sort of an old man guarding the past.

The show began with Speakin' Out. A, "...watchin' my TV, and it'll be watchin' you." love song sung by a young man now old. After a few more Tweedy's, Should Of Been In Love asks why didn't we find each other? I contemplate a minute. No answers.

Between thoughts of wondering what year it is and phone calls from the edge Uncle Jeff slips in layers of nutritious audio silage for the Route 78 West AM radio herd. Bending notes, scary laughs and bourbon slushy recipes bounce on the studio walls.

Post-show campfire conversation fueled by a gallon jug of mixed drinks, rare meat and old cassette tapes is a shady cool nirvana. Sobering intermittent rain showers, musical toys and the underlying realization, "I'll never retire, I'll quite when I'm dead," lurk in the darkness of me as I drive the highway, past the old silo, toward home.

Join Ukulele Loki and Uncle Jeff for Wayne "The Train" Hancock, July 24th at Benders Tavern. Refill your prescription before you head to a musical extravaganza including Ryan Adams, Lucinda Williams, Jesse Skyes and the Sweet Hereafter plus Devothcka and the Old 97's at Red Rocks Amphitheater on August 3rd. Wow!

See ya next week.
