Notes: Cocktails wound in around through the fringes of a pre-Memorial Day theme. A new song by Leaving Tx caught a remote crack in the back of my mind. I took a look at it and decided to investigate. Just into track 3 and I am reminded of the Outlaws. I like it. This is the music which took me visiting places that could be home. I had it all on cassette and played it through a cheap stereo with big speakers in a 1976 Vega. My chemistry got used to that devil car and it took me all around central Illinois without much serious trouble. It burnt 2 qts of oil per day and Southern Rock poured out of the windows.

I had a good music week. Monday witnessed Vietnam and The Black Angels. I dig both these bands enough to go out on a school nite and paid the price the next day. Vietnam plays moody twang hard-driving rock and their lyrics knock the establishment. This stuff is a requirement for all night road trips to Seattle. I'll try to force feed you some on a future show. The Black Angels' drone of tribal chaos is a legal audio drug as far as I can tell. Pre-show had a short conversation with Alex Maas and found him to be upbeat, quiet and dedicated to his music and live performances. The final song of their set had a buzz grinding lead with the drone pushed to the back... a hot track circa Bellevue, Washington style. The band has about a dozen new songs and is assembling a new CD.

Post show lunch/margs with Nan and Jens at the Rio Grande. Thanks to Manager Mike for the great drinks, food and propping the table leg so it wouldn't wobble.

Adios till next week.
