Notes: |
I got my first transistor
radio in the late sixties and spent many nights tuning in Nashville,
St. Louis and Dallas. My home town of Chicago had plenty of good radio too.
News, weather, music and variety. Back then shirt pocket radios ran on those
rectangular 9
volt batteries. The house radio was a giant mahogany Magnavox with a
10 inch speaker, turntable and multiple short-wave bands plus AM and FM.
It was fun to turn the dial real slow trying to find a distant place, then
sit close and listen to somewhere else news. This is the machine I first
played my Led Zep and Beatles LPs on. Great bass. My Mom just got rid of
it two years ago. I will remember that old Magnavox till the day I die. This week I re-discovered 1190 after power down, aka long distance radio. The phone company flipped a switch and DSL flowed through a wire to a modem and a clear digital sound came over the computer speakers... Ed & Conor broke the freezing winter silence and my appreciation of the internet is rejuvenated. Today's hot trak is Malibu by The Moe Green Specials. Malibu is the perfect arrangement of surf guitar, cool percussion and Herb Alpert brass. Not cheesy... James Bond cool. Time to go pick up some kerosene for the heater. See Ya next week. |
