Vagabond Danny
settled in for the show behind mic 2. A small cardboard box of CD's held
material which got Uncle Jeff smiling each time a new song aired. Hal Lone
Pine & Betty Cody, Lattie Moore, Miss Leslie And Her Juke Jointers,
The Miller Sisters, The Farmer Boys and The Be Good Tanyas... all first
time Route 78 West plays. Danny was well prepared and made the show a standout.
Thanks Vagabond! At some point Uncle Jeff uttered, "Imagination never stays put." I don't recall the context of the statement, but knew I had to file it for later. I typed it down. I enjoyed the concept of imaginative thoughts altering logical thoughts. Even now it makes me smile in a wicked way. Bedlam set in with a set of quick surf traks cryptically related to russian spies eating sushi. I was struggling with the playlist and didn't relax till Jesse Sykes was in the speaker. As I glanced to the turntable I saw the Robbie Basho record sleeve and wondered just how that was going to fly into the mix. Jeff fired the LP up, dedicated it to Milkman Dan and away it went till the final tone of a bell. Instantly I went to the same thought as Uncle Jeff. Where ever Milkman Dan was he no doubt had a premonition. It was great to see you this past weekend. A leisured lunch at the Rio Grande included margarita fueled conversation ranging between radio and political correctness. It was satisfying to be in good company, able to bounce ideas and give advice with no thought of repercussion. Pure true discussion is paramount. The entire trip home I listened to Mudhoney's, "Real Low Vibe," over and over till I pulled into the garage. It was such a sunny afternoon for almost December so I did what any crazy would... got my long board and went for a black asphalt ride behind Sears Roebuck, then fired up my amp and played chords for well like way past my fingers hurt. It's a good way to clear the mind and get preped for reality. If you're a surf fanatic check out Continental Magazine. Get ready for Gob Iron, December 6th at the Fox Theatre.
