Notes: |
Jeff returned after a few weeks of tanning and gave compliments to Ukulele
Loki and Doc for the fine show last week. Uncle Jeff took it as a challenge
to continue on the same note. Ukulele Loki seemed refreshed considering his busy theater run and recent performance at the Oriental Theater. Loki commended the Oriental for supporting the arts of old time minstrel, burlesque and death defying antics. After a few Folk songs and a Bob Dylan ballad listeners were treated to Capsized, a new Richmond Fontaine trak. It seems Jeff had got the Fontaine approval to play this one a few weeks ago during their trip through Denver. So, today heard a pleasant mix of Old Old Time Country, Folk and even a few modern tunes for the sake of keeping up with the times. Conversation ping-ponged throughout and even reached to the edges of religion and backed off fast. I enjoyed Patrick Sky, The Louvin Brothers and Blood Meridian, but I'm sticking with Hank Williams' Ramblin' Man as the gem of this show. I know Doc Martin would approve. Jeff says, "...it's the rock star mentality before they even had a word for it... alcohol and pills... die young and leave a beautiful memory." Yep, misery and bad luck is what the old-timey country songs are made of and to just leave you without a surf-going-back-to-school-rescue set would be a musical crime. No crime committed. Stay tuned for another history packed Route 78 West show next week courtesy of Vagabond Danny. |
