"Who Is Arthur
Russell?" said a tired gray beard to Steph. As she explained Jeff
was slipping Rain On The Roof onto the turntable. Jeff tries to be one trak
ahead... for the most part. Ukulele Loki showed up a minute past 10 and
things were going smoothly even though Uncle Jeff was already a trak behind.
This is nothing new. It's no reason to worry and it's normal for The Lovin'
Spoonful to lead Halden Wofford & The Hi-Beams. This is live radio and
a feeling directs the playlist of new releases, familiar artists and RARE
transcriptions which kept me wondering but not frantic. Take my advice,
"Relax and click up the volume." The sine waves will make you
happy. Notable traks include Halden's, "Old Mexico," Drag The River's, "Fire & Flood" and Calexico's, "Ballad of Cabel Hagen." A little Blue Mountain was thrown in for good measure. I enjoy Route 78 West shows such as this which are devised just like a letter is written. Each song is a thought which instigates the next musical choice. This show may prompt me to come up with a list of the top 10 Route 78 West shows... well, ah maybe if I can find the time. Check out Halden Wofford & The Hi-Beams July 22 on the Frontier Train or Devotchka's CD release party July 14 at the Ogden Theater. See ya next week. |
