Notes: A late night into early morning quonset hut transcription binge netted a slue of new old material for today's show. Add some bit torrent downloads and a college station that lets the "old guy" get away with murder... Well, that's a Route 78 West production.

Arthur Godfrey's been getting airtime lately so some info is due. After Godfrey left the coast guard he became a ukulele playing radio announcer (well, that's a coincidence) and by the mid 1930's got into freelance entertaining. In 1943 Arthur Godfrey was the announcer on Fred Allen's Texaco Star Theater. By 1948 he was involved in both TV and radio, most known for the show Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts. His post retirement activities included a Moby Grape album appearance plus environmentalist and anti-establishment tendencies. No wonder he fits into the mix.

The show continued and then I noticed Uncle Jeff had a gleam in his eyes. He pulled out a recent acquisition of The Band's 1973 performance at Roosevelt Stadium. "...Saturated analog, recorded on cassette and a little hot,,, the last life of The Band." It was better than anticipated and somehow led into multiple sandwiches of artists with "Motown bass lines." Uncle Jeff came up with that one.

The show wound down with some Milkman Dan related traks... recommendations of sort. Today's hot trak, on the exxxxtreme edge of alternate country, is "Magic Hours" by Explosions In The Sky. A Milkman certified endorsement and a great bridge to Jonny Trash's Lunch Hour.

It's obvious to regulars that over time the Milkman had developed a musical exchange with Jeff. A sort bop point/counterpoint and possibly mistaken as a foreign dialect. It's about music, any kind of music. Modern day cafe communicato looping into night studio sessions reminiscent of smoky black and white basement jazz joints of the past with a goal of a higher level. The edge of sound experience. The reason I do this.

A show of old favorites and unfamiliar traks from radio transcriptions and rediscovered reel to reel tapes goes by fast and burns more calories than expected. It requires Rio Grande marg's, tortilla wrapped grub and conversation. It's like water after a big race.

This show is dedicated to Milkman Dan. Hey Milkman, have a great adventure.
