Notes:

I got to the station about 4 pm. A little research can't hurt.

Uncle Jeff showed up at the usual time accompanied by his visiting sister. A second later Ukulele Loki strolled in and took his place at the board. Extension cords, power wires and boxes of CDs and records were quickly strewn about. Not in a mess, but chaotic. I was relaxed and ready. Jeff seemed a little jumpy, but normal. Ukulele Loki got all the traks cued up and was surfing. Hey, I get worried when it's quiet and orderly. Yeah, I was calm and ready.

The lead trak was a transcript of "Who Threw The Overalls" originally recorded to Wax Cylinder in 1902. In a few seconds the phone was flashing. Inquisitive listeners! Through out the evening calls came. No doubt, this is the big time.

As of second break; Woody Guthrie:2, Bob Dylan:1. It's a constant tug-of-war, but I think Bob wins based on the clarity of his voice during "Early Morning Rain." Sorry Loki. Keep up the good fight. Maybe next time.

In short order Uncle Jeff threatened Richard Buckner. "Jeeze, didn't you play that last week?" I checked... last time played January 23rd. "Oops, sorry man!" Honestly, we torment each other one second, the next second Jeff is jamming a Gillian Welch CD in my hand and asking, "Is Miss Ohio ok?" I study the CD backside and agree with Jeff's choice. Honestly, I enjoy that tune... I even enjoy all that Iron & Wine he plays and every so often I offer up a trak that fits the scene. At one glance Uncle Jeff had 3 CDs in hand and Loki was passing him one more. In a second all those CDs found their plastic homes and the search was on for the next perfect song.
Somehow the show benefits from this process. Process-o-crazy.

As traks play the album covers are passed from person to person. Each pausing a second to reflect. Each enjoying the other's comments about when, where or how much the record was. We are damn good music critics. We all agree.

In a few weeks an era will come to an end and a new tradition will begin. On Sunday, August 28th Route 78 West will move to the 10 am to noon slot. For us, this is like switching to days after working the 3rd shift for 20 years(over exaggeration). Next week we will play many of our favorites and give you plenty of reminders of the new time slot.

For your convenience we are now podcasting the show. Read about podcasting and try it out.

See ya next week. Same time, same frequency.
