Notes: | Started
off the day in a fog resulting from a pre-dawn Kinski performance at the
Larimer Lounge. I arrived at Uncle Jeff's about 1pm and opted for an RC
cola before depositing myself in a lawn chair next to the fire circle. A
group of turncoat DJ's and renegade exaggerators had gathered to toast Uncle
Jeff's annual celebration of life. At this point we all knew it was best
to ignore tradition. Blowing out candles is not advised near giant, wind-blown
graybeards, so a controlled burn of twigs and trash replaced the civilized
ritual. Talk of music, jail houses and younger days wafted through the smoke.
Neighbors stopped by to view our side show and a pack of dogs ran in circles
playing. Sons of The Pioneers background music and constant bantering kept
our spirits high and slowed time to a crawl. Such is the life of resisters
of the status quo. Soon we were on the road to the Republic for show 181. This past week included some musical discoveries for me, most notably Moby Grape. I especially liked the trak "Omaha," which bridged the Folk scene with electric instrumentation and influenced a band called Buffalo Springfield. Their first album is their best and can still be added to your collection in CD format. Shows to checkout are Rosanne Cash & Jim Lauderdale, August 19 at the Boulder Theater and Lucinda Williams, August 22nd at the Boulder Theater. Steve Earle's new CD, "The Revolution Starts Now," is scheduled out August 24th. Plan ahead for Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter at the Larimer Lounge, October 8th. |
