Notes: | Uncle
Jeff got his kicks from Country Hicks volumes 4 & 5 tonight. Early in
the show "Denomination" caught my attention with its primative
percussion, lively guitar licks and twangy gospel harmonies. I also enjoyed
the south of the border sound of traks 19 through 22... very nice touch. The phone lit up quite a bit tonight. One caller commented, "I don't like country, but I like your show." I'm telling you man, it's the trak selections that makes this show go. "Town Without A Name" by Red Cloud caught my ear with a relaxing tempo and a deep lead vocal. I know how Jeff hates playing Mp3's, but I agree that the quality took second to getting air time for this up and rising local band which recently played the Larimer Lounge with Richmond Fontaine. As I listen to a recording of this show I am enjoying the final 5 song set. Soothing sounds behind incredible vocals delivering meaningful lyrics can refresh a weary, old soul. Iron & Wine will perform April 2nd at the Larimer Lounge. Gram Lindsey (Dylan-like) has an up-coming engagement at the Larimier Lounge... stay tuned for more info. |
