Notes: | I
was accosted by a half crazed carnie in a white car as I walked to the
studio. As the strangely attired man jumped out of the idling vehicle
it quickly dawned on me that it was Loki. He jammed a few CD's in my hand
and mumbled something about family and being tired. I could only stare
at what appeared to be pajama pants... strange. But I understood he meant
business and bid him a good evening. In a few minutes I was relaxing among the CD shelves on an old blue sofa waiting for Uncle Jeff. He arrived and got to business setting up for the show. Everything went status quo until just after "I Hung My Head." A voice from just beyond the studio door said, "Is that your white truck outside?" Uncle Jeff nodded and the person continued, "It's being towed." I noticed Uncle Jeff could still run pretty fast and after he was gone I sort of thought... well, huh who... how is the next song gonna go if he doesn't show up in time? My usual duties never included any time on the board queing up and fading in music. So I did what I could. I waited. Like 3 seconds before dead air was about to happen he flashed through the door, jammed a CD into the player and said, "I wasn't expecting a friendly tow truck driver... he let me off." By the third break all was back to normal. A Telways Transcription of a Foy Willing's radio show which included, "Divorce Me C.O.D." was very enjoyable. A call from old friend Bronson requesting some presidential music was satisfied with an old 78, "The Democratic Donky Is In His Stall." John Cougar Mellencamp's, "Jackie Brown" lead a run of seldom heard tunes plus a few never played traks. Stand outs were "Song For," Terranova's "For A Few Dollars More," and "Green Sequence" from a new CD titled, "For Human Ears Only." "Mendocino" by Sir Douglas Quintet was also a winner in my book. I can support the show's finale going cross genre. The order was thought out and the sounds flowed through my brain like a drug. All in all the evening aired some great tunes and reassured me that tow truck justice does exist. The post show fiesta was at Rio Grande. Shows to see Drive-By Truckers, Feb 18 at the Bluebird, Asylum Street Spankers Feb 27 at the Trilogy Wine Bar with Ukulele Loki, The Crispy Canival Family Spectacular and the Nogoodniks. Buckskin Stallion - 'Blue Ribbon Buzz' CD release party at the Boulder Theater on Feb 26. Richmond Fontaine will be at the Larimer Lounge March 5th. |
