Notes: Uncle Jeff bopped into the studio with 2 CD cases, an LP case, and various shipping packages somehow held and tucked by his hands and arms. I was sitting on a couch, feet propped on an end table when he shoved a brown box into my lap. "Check this out," he said as he passed me and went directly to the studio. I flipped open the box and got my first glimpse of the Blue Sky Boys box set. "Nice pictures," I said.

The first trak played while Uncle Jeff got Romans 6:23 cued up. As trak 2 went out over the airwaves the sweet Blue Sky Boys vocals had me realizing what Jeff already knew about this duo. The following mix of vintage country included Tabby West, a new discovery, Jimmie Davis, Webb Pierce, and Carl Smith.

A 5 trak show by Jimmie Willhelm's Telways Radio Transcription showcased Foy Willings' talents and shed light on his "overlooked showmanship and musical talent" through back-to-back versions of Riders In The Sky. Jeff insists that Willings' talent surpasses The Sons Of The Pioneers and threatened to release a 30 version comp of Riders In The Sky by various artists.

The Spaghetti/Surf selections led with back-to-back Sadies followed by the Vibrants' The Breeze. Jeff was so happy with the set that he couldn't figure out what to play next and expertly wrapped up the flow with On Your Own by The Verve. Gutsy.

I would have been satisfied if the show had ended, but the best was yet to come. Rare and unreleased tunes by Calexico (Paris, France), The Rolling Stones and the Beatles kept me wondering just what goes on in Uncle Jeff's mind while picking out tunes. It's a grey matter musical vault and I just smiled when Jigsaw Puzzle played. I wondered why the Stones cleanup their music for release when it sounds so good in it's raw form?

The phone light blinked often tonight and rightly so. Listeners were hearing stuff for the first time and could not resist finding out more. As Midnight Ranger spun I laughed which exhibited my enjoyment of the show.

Shakes and burgers at Tom's Tavern followed. See you next week at 5 pm.
