Notes:

Today's show began with two sets of good, old time tunes followed by Loki's interview of Local 33s Eric Lowe. Denver based Local 33 has opened for Junior Brown and Richmond Fontaine and recently played two shows at the Lion's Lair. Eric was relaxed and enthusiastically welcomed Loki's request to play Another Round and afterwards told Loki that a year long hiatus for Local 33 has ended. The band will be playing as many shows as possible to prepare for the fall production of a new CD. Eric's eyes smiled as he strummed a Guild and sang a sad story of drinking, confusion and disillusion. I had heard the electric, full band version of Another Round on Local 33s CD, I'll Move On, but this live acoustic version was just as good and allowed the lyrics to shine. Eric described Local 33s style as "Rock with a Country slap in the face" and went on to say that his inspiration comes from whatever comes at him. It's not like he's out to "write that perfect song or the flavor of the day".

Eric grew up in a kind a dismal, not much to do, up-state NY farm town and chose to be inspirational, due a lot from early musical exposure to the Stones, Beatles and his Dad's favorite, Johnny Cash. More recent persuasion by Steve Earle, Uncle Tupelo and Richmond Fontaine has nurtured a musical theme of "hard work, loneliness, travel and drinking" and results in Local 33s heart broke, lonesome, kinda country rockin' tunes. Local 33 includes founding member Eric Lowe and Don Jerome's savvy bass, plus recent additions of Kevin Drost and Steve Richards. Kevin Drost adds a pedal steel sound to the band while Steve Richards brings previous experience drumming for Rainville.

Eric wrapped up his 1190 studio appearance with the touching, working man's lyrics in Who's To Blame and plugged his Thursday show at the BlueBird. Two acoustic traks plus Eric's obvious love of music convinced me I had to attend.

The Balance of the broadcast included excerpts of a previously recorded Richmond Fontaine interview and ticket give-a-ways set the tone for their June 24th BlueBird performance.

Route 78 West and Radio 1190 present Richmond Fontaine, Local 33 and Buckskin Stallion, Thursday, July 24th at the BlueBird Theater. Come and enjoy the show plus meet Loki and Uncle Jeff.

Post show dinner was at Tom's Tavern. Best wishes to our friend Graham in his venture to Nashville.
