Notes:

Tonight's show started off with an Australian surf trak by The Fabulous Blue Jays. The lead trak from Gillian Welch's new album, Miss Ohio, and a Neil Young tune were played back to back as examples of the patented "Nashville Beat" circa Kenny Buttery, Tim Drummond and Charlie McCoy. Jeff continued the Nashville Beat theme through the third set. Richmond Fontaine's electric version of Blinding Sight is a prelude to their rumored Denver visit this coming July. A folk rock undercurrent includedBob Dylan's Frankie Lee and Judas Priest.

Little Roy Wiggins began a 4 trak set of traditional country ending with Nolan Bruce Allen's Texas Playboy Chimes, a tune that has an old sound, but is modern material based out of New York City. The Australian Kasey Chambers showed she has a voice with the style of Loretta Lynn. A voice like that causes one to stop and take note.

Blue Rodeo's 1996 cover of Hickory Wind shows why they are one of Canada's most popular country bands. Loki rolled into the studio about an hour late and quickly challenged listeners to come up with verses for Kasey Chamber's I Hope I Go to Texas When I Die.

Loki insisted a few tunes be played and dedicated to all those &#@!ing landlords taking advantage of their renters.

The spaghetti western courtesy of local band DeVotchKa and part of a set which took listeners through several genres including the Legendary Shack Shakers, Muddy Waters and more. Then it was back to traditional country for a set before Alt-Country came in to bring the show to a close.

The change of season seems to bring a subtle pleasant shift to Route 78 West's play list. The addition of Swervedriver's Cars Converge on Paris really caught my ear and had me asking Uncle Jeff to borrow the CD. Swervedriver's trak was a completely new experience and got me realizing that each show revisits historical music while discretely introducing seldom heard traks.
