Notes: | While in Chicago I tuned
in the show via streaming netcast and the familiar sounds made me realize
that Route 78 West is a Sunday tradition for me. Jeff was in a melancholy
trance during his solo show tonight. He started off with a few country sets
and then hit the political freeway. I especially enjoyed Neil Young followed
by Uncle Tupelo, but hey that's just me. Uncle Jeff was holding down the fort and did a great job running the boards and adding his musical two-cents-worth. The songlist reeked satisfying smoothness and moved back and forth in time. A few Christmas songs were played for good measure. If this show didn't tweek your mind into a warm feel good haze then you must be a corpse. Uncle Jeff recommended seeing Steve Earle at the Boulder Theater on February 4th and told everyone to go run out and buy the new Uncle Tupelo CD "89/93 An Anthology" which has the re-release of Effigy and all kinds of great re-mastered trax. Short-term reminiscing of days gone past and the closing of the Hi-Lo did not spoil tonight's alt-country lullaby. When I'm visiting Chi-town and listening to WXRT (my favorite commerical radio station), I'll turn it off to catch 1190 on Sunday night. Merry Christmas to all. |
